Amelia, a comune in the province of Terni, is located in the immediate vicinity of the Amerini Mountains and the valley of the River Tiber, between the countryside of Umbria and dense forests; the city's history begins with the original founding of a settlement by the people of the Pelasgians, then under the control of Rome, the city became a municipality, by becoming a thriving economic and political center.

In the following centuries, during the Middle Ages, the city of Amelia became a free common and was a source of interest and conflict between the empire and the Church; power over the Umbrian village was later exercised by Cardinal Egidio Albornoz, who managed to contain the expansionism of the near Todi.
The city is full of buildings and monuments that tell the past, like the cathedral, an ancient structure built in the Romanesque style, the Church of San Francesco, which was built during the 1400s, which is equipped with a bell tower and is home to some important frescoes, the Church of St. Augustine, built in Gothic style and inside of which houses a painting representing the Madonna and Child, the Church of St. Magnus, which saw the presence of an ancient monastery, and finally the Church St. Maximilian Kolbe, the most notable in the city, the building is realized in a modern style and is named after the saint who was later deported to Auschwitz.
In Amelia there are also some important buildings, like Palazzo Petrignani, built during the 1500 in Renaissance-style, Farrattini's Palace, built in the early sixteenth century, and within which are held several works of Sangallo, Palazzo Nacci, a building of the fifteenth century, of major importance are also the polygonal walls, which according legend were built in ancient times by the people of the Pelasgians and the Archaeological Museum.
Amelia is also witness to a traditional festival that takes place every year : the Palio dei Colombi, this event is constituted as an evocation of medieval joust with the participation of representatives of the five districts in which it divided the country.
