The town of San Gemini is located in Umbria, in the province of Terni, between the beautiful hills of the region; in the immediate vicinity you can find important remains of a Roman settlement known as Carsulae and is known internationally for its mineral waters and baths.
The city's history begins in pre-Roman times, when it was first a settlement, then the control was taken over by the Romans, when the city was named Casvetum; the city, during the eleventh century, saw the presence of Monaco Sirano, named Gemini who, through his sermons brought important improvements to the lives of the people who, impressed by this character, decided to call the town Santo Gemini.
In the following centuries, during the medieval period, San Gemini took a major political and economic importance, especially thanks to its proximity to major streets and roads.
The city is rich in monuments and churches, such as the Abbey of St. Nicholas, which was built in the eleventh century and in which are important frescoes, the Church of San Francesco, built around 1200 and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, the Church of San Gemine, named after the monk that preached in the city, the Church of the Holy Stafa, which was built on an existing building and finally the small Priorale Church of St. Charles.
Very interesting is also the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, the ancient seat of government of the City, the tower experiment, the Museo dell'Opera di Guido Calori, dedicated to the works of this artist and the Museum of Earth Sciences, a structure that has five rooms.
San Gemini annually hosts two events of particular interest: the Flower Festival of Corpus Christi, during which the population, organized in groups, helps to create the best flower arrangements and the Joust of the weapon, which is held on previous day in San Gemini, patron saint of the city; the feast is established as a historical re-enactment of the medieval period.
