Scheggino is a castle of triangular-shaped slope, with a keep and a watch tower at the top, built on the left bank of the river Nera, a guard of the road and one of the few crossings of the river. His name was probably the conformation of the land on which it arose, with rocks shaped shrapnel. Its original core was due to the sec. XIII, when the existing tower we began to shift housing residents here refugees after the destruction of feudal castle of Pozzano located nearby.
