Scheggino is a castle of triangular-shaped slope, with a keep and a watch tower at the top, built on the left bank of the river Nera, a guard of the road and one of the few crossings of the river. His name was probably the conformation of the land on which it arose, with rocks shaped shrapnel. Its original core was due to the sec. XIII, when the existing tower we began to shift housing residents here refugees after the destruction of feudal castle of Pozzano located nearby. In one can identify the most ancient, above, called Head of the earth, surrounded by the first circle of walls and most diruta, the expansion of the century. XIV and XV, further downstream, the village of sec. XVI, along the channel adduction of the mill, and expansion beyond the river the next centuries. Among the medieval ruins are still visible the city walls, the tower, doors and many bulwarks of fortification. On 23 July 1522 the castle knew how to defend themselves against a rebel assault leaked in the city of Spoleto, with the help of women and children, who from the walls animosamente defended their homes, despite the men were absent for harvest.
