The town of Trevi, near Perugia is located in an environment of particular interest, characterized by the presence of the mountains Brunette and Serano, and vast areas of plains and hills, the country stands on the valleys of numerous rivers that populate the valleys below, such as the creek Clitunno, which is the greater.
The history of this town of Umbria begins in very ancient times, the territory is in fact inhabited since prehistoric times then in the imperial era the ancient settlement assumed a great importance because it is vicinity to the Via Flaminia.
Later the town became a bishopric, was dominated by the people of the Lombards and absorbed in the Duchy of Spoleto; in the course of 1220 the village was constituted as a free town and were joined by politically powerful to Perugia; during the following centuries Trevi became a dominion of the Papal States, until the territory was annexed to Italy after unification.
Visiting the town of Trevi demonstrates a number of important buildings of a religious nature, like the Church of Sant'Emiliano, named after the bishop, which according to legend was killed during the reign of Diocletian, built during the fifteenth century; it keeps an altar of the sacrament of Rocco da Vicenza and the Church of San Francesco, a native of thirteenth century, which sees the presence of some frescoes of 1300.
Our route then continues out of the country, a few kilometers from the town because there are also two other important religious buildings, of particular interest and beauty, in fact to mention St. Peter's Church, located in the nearby village of Bovara and the Church of Our Lady of Tears, which was built in the late fifteenth century.
Of particular interest is also the Palazzo Comunale, which was built in the fifteenth century, part of which now houses the Pinacoteca in which the Madonna is carried out by Pinturicchio and other important works of art.
